Who We Are

Rev. Dr. Alex Gondola

Growing up in Hollis, NH, I have long appreciated the natural beauty of Mont Vernon, and admired its friendliness and community spirit. So, I am delighted to serve as the new Interim Pastor of the Mont Vernon Congregational Church (United Church of Christ). My most recent church service was five years as the part-time Interim Pastor of the First Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) of Milford, NH. During that period the congregation conducted a successful Capital Fund Campaign, increased its community outreach and grew by fifty members. Previous to that I served full-time for thirty-six years as an Associate Pastor, Pastor and Senior Pastor in United Church of Christ congregations from Cape Cod to Ohio.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Allegheny College, a Master of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School, a Master of Arts from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a Doctor of Ministry from Colgate Rochester Divinity School. My wife Bonnie–also from Hollis, NH–and I have been married for forty three years. We have an adult son, Andrew, living in San Francisco, CA and a Calico cat, Chummy, living with us in Amherst, NH. I enjoy jogging, martial arts, foreign travel and writing for publication. You can get a message to me by emailing montvernonchurch@comcast.net.

Abbie Velez

Hey! My name is Abbie Velez and I’m the music director at MVCC. I’ve spent my whole life studying music. I started at 3 years old on the piano with this crazy musical gift and I quickly became a child prodigy studying with prestigious teachers and dreaming of Juilliard. God had other plans for me however! I’m now a busy mom of 4 boys and have spent the last ten years using my musical gift for the church. I play piano, organ and clarinet! I sing and direct our choir and praise band. I love what I do! I am so thankful God blessed me with this gift and that I use it every day to praise Him!

Cathy Leonard

Children have been the main focus of my entire adult life. I have six children of my own, and I have also worked with and supported elementary age students as a Para Educator for eight years. I have also had the opportunity to tend and care for the children of Mont Vernon Congregational Church nursery. In addition, I have taught weekly Bible classes at church for children ranging in ages from birth to ten years old for most of the last thirty years or so. My greatest passion is to educate all children to know and love their God.
